Jay Chou creates new song for wife's movie

Chinese pop icon Jay Chou has a new song on the way - created for his wife Hannah Quinlivan's new film "Sky Fire."
"You have no idea about when I write a song. It didn't take long to write a good song, as long as I have inspiration. 'Sky Fire' will hit theaters on Dec. 12, I just finished the theme song today, fresh and new," Chou wrote on his Instagram account on Dec. 7.
He added, "Usually, I mull over a song for a very long time before it comes out. But not this time. How about going to listen to my new song in theaters?"
At a special screening in Beijing on Sunday, producer Jennifer Dong revealed Chou composed and performed the song, "I Truly Believe," with his legendary collaborator and friend Vincent Fang writing the lyrics. Chou has not put together any album for three years, which is so slow compared to his former frequency in releasing an album every year. Thus, a new song will be very rare and precious treat for fans, filing them with great anticipation.
The new song also surprised the film studio, Meridian Entertainment, which sees it as a precious gift. Dong said they were rushing out a music video with behind-the-scene footages, which will be screened after the film's ending credits as a special treat for fans.
Chou has been sparing no effort promoting the film for his wife, having reportedly already seen and loved it. Back in October at his concerts in Shanghai, he played the movie trailer on an LED screen for tens of thousands of fans. He did so in following concerts and wrote posts whenever Hannah Quinlivan walked on red carpet for the film at various film festivals. How his unswerving support for the film will translate into box office gross remains to be seen.
"Sky Fire" is directed by Simon West and starring Hannah Quinlivan, Wang Xueqi, Jason Isaacs and Shawn Dou as well as a cameo appearance by Bee Rogers, the Chinese-speaking daughter of famous investor Jim Rogers. It tells the story of a group of people staying at a tropical resort hit by a volcanic eruption.
Dong had told China.org.cn that it could set a new benchmark in Chinese film history for the disaster film genre.
It is also important that it's a China-developed and managed international product, with a crew of 551 filmmaking talents from 17 countries hired five years ago. During the filming, 500 kilograms of explosives and more than 20 tons of tephros were used, while more than 1,600 shots, about 80% of all the shots of the film, involved visual effects.
